Delicious Chocolate Smoothie Recipe (with a secret hair growth ingredient)

Confession time : My name is Tricia and I am a Chocaholic.

From my teens I had to have chocolate every.single.day.

Later, I went into chocolate rehab and kicked the habit but it is still.a.struggle.

Nowadays my defence is simple – I don’t buy any chocolate.

Of course, when folks gift me with chocolate, that is another story….*sigh*

But my other defence is to create delicious and healthy chocolate substitutes!

Two weeks ago someone bought me a Haagen Daas chocolate ice-cream bar, so I backslid. *Don’t judge me – I had just come from the gym!*

Funny enough, when I made this smoothie the following day, I can honestly say that the smoothie tasted BETTER!

This smoothie recipe incorporates one of the Natural hair and wellness hacks we use successfully for general health including healthy skin and hair.

It is one of my favourite products – Diatomaceous Earth  (D.E)

I came across it while doing research for parasites.(Long story but we all have them so get over it.)

D.E is a tasteless, odourless, finely ground white powder supplement that promises to detox your system of unwanted invaders.

A happy bonus is that its active ingredient is Silica,  so it makes your hair, skin and nails grow like wildfire.

So here is one of my favourite ways to consume D.E – In this healthy nutty smoothie that tastes like chocolate ice-cream!

RECIPE

Chocolate Cashew Butter Smoothie :

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 very ripe frozen banana  (nyoro or the dotted ones are best)

  • 1 cup  almond milk or coconut milk. If you can tolerate lactose then some thick plain yoghurt will do.

  • 1 tablespoon cashew butter

  • 1 heaped tablespoon raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder if you don’t have the real one)

  • A teaspoon of raw honey or a few drops of stevia to sweeten

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon of Diatomaceous Earth

  • *optional chia seeds or protein powder if you want it more filling

  • *optional handful of ice

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

The frozen banana gives it a yummy ice-cream consistency. Enjoy!

Note : I purchase most of my ingredients from the weekly Organic Farmer’s Market.

You can find all these ingredients there except the nut milks. Substitute peanut butter for the cashew butter if you prefer.

I make my own almond or coconut milk  – stay tuned for the recipes.

Hey!! This looks like something I would enjoy. Where can I get the D.E? I can’t access the Organic Farmers’ Market.
