How do I apply gel without flaking?

Q: I apply gel to make my natural hair smooth when styling. Every time I use gel I get white clumps and flaking. How do I fix it? A: Unless you use flaxseed gel or some other natural organic gel, I personally do not advocate for making gel a permanent player in your type 4 hair regimen. Why?
